Dr. Julia Giesemann

Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to the website of my private psychotherapy practice.
My name is Dr. Julia Giesemann, and I would like to briefly introduce myself.
I spent my childhood and teenage years in Munich, and after graduating from the European School in Munich, I moved to Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate to pursue my studies. There, I earned my Bachelor’s and Master of Science degrees in Psychology from the University of Trier. Since I was very interested in both psychotherapy and psychological research, I decided to pursue training as a psychological psychotherapist with a focus on behavioral therapy for adults, while simultaneously working toward a Ph.D. in psychotherapy research.
The advanced training program at the University of Trier is characterized by a disorder- and effect-factor-oriented focus and the integration of the latest research findings. In my doctoral research, my focus was on predicting therapy outcomes using artificial intelligence.

My personal life experiences and my training in psychotherapy have led me to believe that every person is the product of their genetics and their experiences. Experiences are particularly formative when they occur early in our development (childhood and adolescence), as the human brain is still highly malleable at that stage. These experiences set the course for our beliefs about ourselves, other people, and the world, as well as our behavioral patterns and strategies for regulating emotions. No one chooses their genetics or their childhood experiences. As adults, however, we can have experiences that help us gain a new perspective.
Psychotherapy can be such a new experience. The goal is to resolve or improve psychological issues.
In general, my patients’ autonomy is very important to me, as change is only possible on a voluntary basis, and only you can know what a positive change in your life might look like. I would like to tailor the therapy together with you and explore which strategies are best for you.
